Welcome to the 4D Browser! With this tool, you can experience city history virtually and go on an exploration tour using historical photographs that have been entered into a digital 3D model according to their original perspective. The 4D browser thus incorporates time as a fourth dimension and adds a further component to the digital 3D model.
The manual is aimed at anyone who has never used the 4D browser before. In this manual, we will guide you through the first steps so that you can start the 4D browser, explore the 3D model and view the content it contains.
Warning: Please be advised that this repository is still undergoing development. It is intended that a stable version will be released, but the date or timeframe is not yet determined.
Audience
This course is ideal for:
- Citizens who want to explore their city virtually.
- Researchers looking for specific media on city heritage.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course you will:
- Have gained an insight into the 4D Browser and its functionalities for users.
- Being able to browsing and navigating your city virtually and having access to related media.
Requirements
There is no expert knowledge needed to complete the course. Technical requirements include:
- The tool is web-based and can be started with any web browser. The soIware runs smoothly on various operating systems and all browsers; Google Chrome is recommended as it offers the best performance. We also recommend a screen with at least Full HD resolution, i.e. 1920×1080 pixels.
- There is currently no version optimized for mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets, so we do not recommend using such devices with touch operation.
- In order to view and control the 3D model of the city comfortably and precisely, we recommend using an external computer mouse. While a laptop touchpad basically works, a mouse offers significantly more control, especially when navigating and zooming in the 3D model. Special keyboard commands are not necessary.
Note: The 4D Browser is currently only available in English.
